Give Up the Booty: The Album [EP]

"Give Up the Booty" was the first official tommyROCK solo release. It was recorded during the summer of 1999 as "Just Say Yes" was going through post-production. "The Album" made for a slightly misleading title, being that it only contained 7 full-length tracks, plus a couple minute-long single-verse tracks & some interlude/intro type stuff. In actuality this would be considered an EP, and "My Pretty Little World" would be the first full-length tommyROCK solo release.

"Give Up the Booty" in retrospect was clearly influenced by the likes of local Pittsburgh legends The Buzz Poets, as well as Limp Bizkit, Blink-182, Green Day, and Eminem. The approach was fairly straight-forward pop-punk with a bit of hip-hop. The prior tommyROCK demo career had been mostly rap, inspired by the gangsta-rap era of the 90's, and that element was certainly kept alive despite the overall direction being more rock-oriented. Production value had drastically improved over the "Just Say Yes" compilation, though there was still quite an amateur feel to it. The guitar distortion was thin and recorded in Mono, the drum beats were played on a Yamaha keyboard (live, but nothing can really disguise the sound of a cheap keyboard's drum pads), and tommyROCK was still finding his voice as a singer. Like "Just Say Yes," this EP was also recorded by layering cassette-tape tracks that were recorded live, unable to edit them afterward. But there was a definite increase in production value, based on experience alone and less rushing of the recording process.

This EP is no longer in print and probably never will be, so grab the mp3s while you can, and enjoy!
